District Director's Message
November 2015

Let’s take stock of where we find ourselves today!

Dear Fellow Toastmasters,

Four months have passed since the term started and it is a great privilege to share my thoughts with you.

In my opening address at the District Semi-Annual Conference at NTU on 24 Oct 2015, I shared that, to date, the district broke many records such as:

1. We achieved 100% club officers’ list submission before 30 June 2015.

2. We achieved 94.2% of at least 4 club officers sent to COT1, that is, out of 208 base clubs, 196 sent at least 4 club officers to COT1. We only achieved 88.66% last term!

3. We achieved 95.3% membership payment before October dues date—201 clubs out of 211 clubs (including 3 new clubs). We only achieved 90% last term. To date, we are ranked No.6 in the world!

4. For the very first time, the district reached the finals of the World Championship of Public Speaking. Manoj Vasudevan ACS, CL, from Toastmasters Club of Singapore and Marine Parade TMC, placed third in the prestigious competition after several eliminating rounds that began six months ago, along with nine final contestants. It is the world's largest speech contest with about 30,000 participants in about 100 countries.

At this point, I would like to thank all Members, Club Officers, Area Directors, Division Directors and District Senior Officers for the time and efforts contributed to our clubs, areas, divisions and district. I am very sure that together, we shall continue to break many more records and achieve the best results we could ever have by 31 May 2016--before the term ends!

As we enter the fifth month, let’s ask ourselves a few tough questions. The most important of those questions is whether you, as members are enjoying the Toastmasters learning journey.

This is the time to take stock of where we find ourselves now, what have we done and learnt that will contribute to the success of our personal development and/or for our clubs, being the club leaders. And then, we take immediate action to improve those that we didn’t do well and also work on those that we missed, continuing to monitor the progress. I am sure that we will achieve the success by meeting our goals at the end of the term.

As quoted by Dr. Ralph C. Smedley: Purpose determine the good, marks the path, and furnishes the motion power.

For Senior District Officers and together with our members, we all have our District Vision and Goals, the success in meeting our goals is relying upon our members’ contributions too!

Make Members Matter
All Members are Happy

All Areas are at least Distinguished Area
All Divisions are President Distinguished Division

District 80 President Distinguished District

District Critical Success Factors:

We target to achieve President Distinguished District goals by 31 May 2016:

Goal 1. 10% Net Membership Payment Growth (11,359 to12,495 Membership Payment)
Pay your dues on time, help your club retain members by providing positive learning

experiences and recruit more new members by bringing guests to your club meetings.
Think about what you gained as a member of Toastmasters. By inviting others to join, you

give them the opportunity to benefit as well.

Goal 2.  10% Net Club Growth (208 to 229 Clubs, net growth of 21 new clubs with no club loss)

As members, you can share and expand the Toastmasters benefits to your organization

and/or  the Community Centre near you by forming more new clubs.

Goal 3.  75% Distinguished Clubs (71% to 75%)
Do your projects, hold meeting appointment roles, complete your education awards, help your

club achieve more DCP Goals, go the extra miles to achieve the best that you ever have

It is important for us to update our members on district progress in the Distinguished District Program, including future trends and issues. We have posted the 2nd District Executive Committee and 1st District Council Reports at http://www.district80.org/resources.htm . We will post the meeting minutes as soon as it is ready. Since then District is still progressing, we shall celebrate more achievements at the next 3rd District Executive Committee and 2nd District Council Meeting on 20 May 2016.

Together we can make the most memorable Toastmasters learning journey of our term!

From Prospect to Guest to Members 《

How to Build a Toastmasters Club

How to be Distinguished Club《
