Sky Media TMC is now Toa Payoh Central CC TMC 10th November 2004
Dear Fellow Toastmasters

It is with great pride that we announce our new home, Toa Payoh Central Community Club.

Sky Media announced that they would be focussing their attention on their China business.  Since end September, we had to move out of their office and we had been discussing with Toa Payoh Central CC and finally, on 4 Nov 2004, the CCMC officially accepted us under their umbrella.  It had not been easy and I must say all our members rallied behind us even though we did not have a permanent home.

We will be changing the name of our club from Sky Media Toastmasters Club to TOA PAYOH CENTRAL CC TOASTMASTERS CLUB.  I'll be submitting to TI regarding this change.

Our meetings will still be held on 2nd Mondays and 4th Thursdays of the month.  The meeting place will be the mini theatrette which can accommodate up to 116 people - an ideal place to mould our speakers and to hold contests as well!!

We welcome you to visit us at our new home!

Cheers!!

Good News from Woodlands Toastmasters Club President 19th September 2004

Dear District Officers in District 80,

I will bring you good news from Woodlands Toastmasters Club.

Our club went into a stage of closure in July despite chartered on Nov 2003 but things were pieces were put back slowly since then and we almost 1/4 way through the 10,000 pieces that torn apart.

I personally put 5000 flyers in letterbox with small scars at my hands to 58 blks near the CC and Admiralty area.  My VPE and myself had been very stressed since the time when the rest of 19 members who are inactive not renewing their membership. My VPE, Siew Yen tried to call the members before every meeting to invite them back to our monthly meeting, we get replies like , see how, will do, .. and sometime no answer. She nearly reached a point of giving up but I taught her techniques which James Tan had taught me. Call the person 1st time, 2nd time, 3rd time, we stop calling the person again.

Our effort paid off when the speechcraft preview on 20 Aug 2004 take off with Michael Wee giving an presentation and our first speechcraft brought alot of success and brought out interested parties to sign up for Speechcraft or members. 9 Speechcrafters ( 1 of them is an old member who only did up to 2 project speeches, 4 are Speechcrafters- 1 of them from Clementi).

Instead of the promised target to the CCMC of 8 members in Sep, 15 members in Dec, we had surpass that quota set, 3 existing member (myself, VPE and an old member)

4 new members sign up as a member and attend their 1st Speechcraft (one of them is the CCMC Secretary) 4 dual members (excluding me) I also had a new team of Executive committee to assist me. Some of them are new members and dual members who had shown great interest about Toastmasters and Woodlands Toastmasters Club. After the Speechcraft, I will personally train them for their roles.

11 members Sep renewal - we are not there yet. Read on

I even persuaded DVG S Stanley Goh to sign up as a members as most of the Speechcrafters like his presentation. I will try to persuade Kan Kin Fung and Michael Wee to join the club. I did an 1 1/2 hrs presentation to a small medium company on 11 Sep 2004 despite the fact I am unwell. They were persuaded and inspired by my presentation when I did the following

  • Toastmasters - My life changing experience

  • Why Toastmasters - An PowerPoint presentation

  • Fun with table topics - an interactive session to learn and overcome Table Topics.

One of the manager write a email on Monday to request for Speechcraft to conduct for 6 of their staffs, I obliged straightaway and plan for the next Speechcraft on every sat morning in Oct 2004 except the 3rd one when we invite them to as Toastmasters Meeting. We are charging the cost of members. So our next Speechcraft in Oct, I will again drop 5000 flyers into the letterbox to again attract resident around Admiralty area and Sembawang area.

I even invited the whole company of 25 staffs to join us for Speechcraft which in turn be members of the club when the cost of Speechcraft is equal to 1 year membership.

In Sep renewal ( Oct - mar) , Woodlands toastmasters club will be having 16 on the membership roasters at TI. Hope that we can have 31 members.

As an Area Governor of U2, I will spread this message around to the clubs in my area and my division U to motivate them and eventually they can do likewise to have more members.

I will to appeal to the District to support us in anyway throughout not only this term and our journey in Toastmasters.

Like what DG had say, "Do it Now"

Willie Loh
