District 80, Make Members Matter

 HONOUR ROLL

Monthly feature of Toastmasters in District 80 who are either a success story or has inspired others because of membership in the organization

   Michael Wee, DTM

Michael Wee, DTM joined Toastmasters in January 1993 to acquire communication skills. And, after 22 years in the organization, he said that he has become more confident and self-assured which lead to him being outgoing and sociable. Not only that, he had also reached the pinnacle of being a leader at District 80 when he became the District Governor in 2007. He is currently the District Parliamentarian. He also won numerous speech contests; and the latest is winning the District 80 International Speech Contest in 2012. Moreover, for as long as his schedule would permit, he accepts speaking invitations for various topics that Toastmasters would surely benefit from. He also believes that to get anywhere in life, you have to be able to win others over to your side and to your ideas. Toastmasters is "Where Leaders are Made" and leadership, to him, is learning how to influence people, thus, winning others to your side and to your ideas. He will definitely recommend the organization to others to improve their lives. Michael is truly a Toastmaster worthy of emulation.

 Desmond Wong, DTM

Desmond Wong, DTM joined the Toastmasters organization on 26th May 2000 during a 3-month Speechcraft workshop. Together with his mentor, Henry Soh, DTM, they formed the Ang Mo Kio Mandarin Toastmasters Club and he became its Charter President in 1 October 2000. He signed up because it has a very good program in improving communication and leadership skills which in turn fosters confidence and self-esteem to its members. Later on, he felt a marked improvement in his interpersonal skills too. His friends observed his remarkable transformation. He became Division L Governor in term 2012-2013 and lead it to a Presidents Distinguished Award. After more than a decade with the organization, he has received many other awards in recognition of his contributions and the latest is the Toastmaster of the Year for term 2013-2014. He wants to share with the community how his life was enriched in the organization. And, that is the reason he has sponsored so many Mandarin clubs through the years. As his mantra would attest, "I can do it, so can you!" Desmond is truly an inspiration to his peers in District 80.

Harikrishnan Muthusamy, DTM

Harikrishnan Muthusamy, DTM initially joined Toastmasters in 2002 to improve on his English speaking abilities. But, later on, the knowledge and experience he acquired from the organization tremendously improved his self-confidence too. Moreover, his leadership potential was further developed with constant collaboration with role model peers. He further adds that he will highly recommend signing up to a Toastmasters Club to the world at large because of the value-added skill acquired of being a better communicator, which will be an asset, not only at home, but at work as well. Also, the network enhanced with like-minded people will further boost confidence in dealing with other people or situations. To date, he has sponsored a total of 11 Tamil clubs. He was also Division A Governor in term 2011-2012 and lead it to a Presidents Distinguished Award. He has received numerous recognitions for his valuable contribution to District 80 and the most prominent in recent time was the District Governor's Citation for Extraordinary Service and Dedication for term 2013-2014. No doubt that Harikrishnan is a Toastmaster worthy of emulation and inspiration of his peers.

 Azizah Sapari, DTM

Azizah Sapari, DTM signed-up in Toastmasters in July 2007 to be an articulate and effective speaker. And, having been a member for a number of years already, she firmly believes that joining Toastmasters has also developed her speaking and leadership skills. Not only that, the organization has immersed her into a world of selfless sharing amongst like-minded people and has expanded her network of friends globally. She has also stepped forward and taken up various leadership roles in her club and the district as well. She lead Division B to a Presidents Distinguished Division Award as its Governor in 2011-2012. She was also the Organizing Chair of the highly successful "JEWEL-Bejeweled, Bedazzled, Bewitched" - Semi-annual Conference 2012. Currently, she holds the position of District Finance Manager. Azizah  would definitely recommend others to join Toastmasters because she has benefitted from the programme and would like others to benefit too. Azizah is, no doubt, a Toastmaster that inspires with her proven commitment and dedication to the Toastmasters Vision and Mission.
