I really miss the time when we worked together, the endless night emails, meetings and discussions!

The MAD Convention just ended, but there were lots of beautiful moments and memories with our MAD Leaders and Team Members...

I can still remember:

- The disappointment we had when our idea of having the Convention on the cruise was turned down by Top District Officers!

- The encouragement of members volunteered themselves to lead the team and be part of the team!

- The numerous discussion meetings after meetings, discussion after discussion!

- Having to work with budgets with the help from various resources, but no detail information, imagination of what cost can be!

- Visiting several venues, Hotels and even Convention Hall in Malaysia. Pulau Ubin, Holiday Resorts!

- The daring and bravely decision by Team after the 2nd attempt to proof to our Team that Suntec is the best choice, regardless of cost!

- The voting of MAD Logo from more than 10 designs!

- Your immediate updating after our internet chatting that caught my surprise!

Sales and Marketing Team

-  Their creative ideas in selling our package... going around Clubs, Areas, Divisions and District Events helping us to fill the Big Suntec Theatre...

Sponsors from MAD Team and Sponsors Team

- Without your help, we will not able to make it to Suntec and listen to world-class speakers!

- Your sponsorship of prizes and door gifts have added spices to our event!

Mandarin Team:

- The very cooperative Mandarin programme team for the hardworking in selling the event tickets, and able to run their own programme independently without worries!

Tamil Team:

- The supportive Tamil group, your great challenge in working with our team toward the success of the event, for the 1st time participating at our District Convention!

- The many discussion and changes to the use Rooms &Theatre with English, Mandarin and Tamil Educational Team

- The choice of F&B for different groups of members, vegetarian, halal. Buffet, Chinese dinners, the tables’ arrangement with hospitality team

Dear MAD Convention TEAM,

I can only say that I am filled with a sense of satisfaction that all of you had a wonderful experience that will stay with you for years to come.

I wish you all great things in the future and that you will in one way or another take off from here and will be more knowledgeable in similar endeavours that you may find yourselves in.

Thank you for the Great Team Work, Relationships that were forged and the Love imparted among us.

Best Regards and God Bless You all.

Michael Rodrigues

The MAD Convention

This was TI Disrict 80 Annual Convention 2008
Held at Singapore's SUNTEC City on 23-25 May
Ended with a high note for about 450 delegates

Mdm Tay YP & Mike Rodrigues were co-chairpersons
Admittedly had worked tirelessly for good reasons -
Deciding on the motto MAD ie. Making A Difference

Conceived 18 months ago at 2007 MACAU convention
Organised a dedicated team under their supervision
Named capable leaders to handle various divisions
Viewed past conventions for a novel introduction
Embraced many good and valuable suggestions
Noted that it had to be better than previous production
Took care of every detail, meaning and connotation
Invited sincere feedback and critical observations
Obligated to thank all helpers with a super celebration
Needed a break after this mad MAD diversion

Best wishes
William Tang

Seems like the number of emails before and after convention is comparable :) Nice to see so many positive comments from our committee members, as well as many delegates.

We had done so many small things, but we did it with love (quoting Anne who quoted Mother Theresa).

Regards,
MAD Heru

Dear MAD Team,

I wish to thank each and everyone of you especially to Angeline Koh and William Tang, my Hospitality Team.

Our relentless efforts borne the fruits of labour in the success of our Toastmasters International District 80 Annual Convention which ended yesterday.  Many compliments were received from Anne Barab, Stuart Barab, Ed Hearn, overseas delegates and home toastmasters.  I must confess that I have acquired the experiential learning participating actively in the working committee.  Although we lost countless hours of sleep, but the net result is satisfying.  As the saying goes... No Pain No Gain.  Indeed we gained tremendously especially the camaraderie spirit, the joy and fun learning and working together in the MAD Committee.

Many happy returns to each of you working so devotedly and diligently for the benefit of all.

Thank you.  Keep in Touch all my MAD Friends.

Jenny Au

Dear Mad Mama and Papa,

I thank you for allowing me to work with a very very big mad family.  Although tired and yet still able to complete the tasks assigned from the very moment the family started.  It is very wonderful experience and happy that we can complete the work to the satisfaction of the delegates.  I must not forget the various teams that gave us the valuable advise and encouragement.

Thank you Mad Mad team.

Regards,

Pak Fee

Dear Yiang Ping,

You and Mike simply vowed me with your talent, drive and passion. We the team members must thank both of you for the wonderful learning journey that you took us on.

I wish I had more time to attend the many valuable workshops, but work and family demands were too urgent to ignore or postpone.

I also want to thank Mei Har for her dedication in seeing the closing ceremony through. There were many hitches, glitches and twitches, but you took us all through with your determination and pride in making this project a success. It has been and will be a pleasure working with you. I made more friends and had a good time. June 20th and 27th is fine with me.

Yes, I agree with Sam and Ruby on a general format for feedback.

Thank you and God bless both of you in many ways,
Elizabeth Thorarajoo

Dear MAD Mama, Papa, brothers and sisters

I am suffering from MAD withdrawal symptoms!  Will really miss the camaraderie, and especially the gongfu and salsa rehearsals.  Thank you Ban Peng and James for painstakingly rehearsing us – it was really enjoyable, though torturous on the feet rehearsing 4 hours in high heels weekly!   I loved working with everyone – Rose, Doreen, Aziz, etc.  It was a wonderful learning experience.

Love to everyone and hope to see you soon!!!
Ruby Lai

Hi, Yiang Ping

You really made a MAD bocame reality.

Cheers

WT

At past Conventions, I witnessed how great Toastmasters have made events happened !!

At this 'MAD' Convention, I'm so glad I helped to make things happen by contributing in 'small' & meaningful ways .... the Gongfu dance was an event we thought was difficult when we were first shown the steps of the whole dance but when the audiences were 'wowed' by what they saw & words of praises & appreciation were received when members came to tell me, I can truly say (in line with what we learnt fm Ed Hearn's speech) that we had the 'courage to try'....& we did it!!!

I must also say we had great leaders like Yiang Ping & Michael Rodrigues who, again, showed us what great & dynamic leaders can do !!!  Thank you Yiang Ping ! Thank you Michael !

As I relive the moments of joy & greatness from this Convention, I am truly proud to be part of the 'MAD' team !!

Cheers

Lynda Neo

My dear friends,

You are truly mad mad mad....
My heartiest congratulations on a job well done!
it has been a great convention and i can see the greatness in everyone of you.
You have truly " go for greatness!"

Go for it!
Best Regards,
GOH Wei Koon

Dear Mad members

to my Jenny Au & her team, you are great, wonderful and fantastic - even last minutes problem was being converted to happy moment

to my mad mama and mad papa

both of you are marvelous parents to we mad children

Back to business: my available date for feedback  30 May and appreciation is 13June.

I propose that we send a thank you message to WenJun.  He is our Mad Super Hero with the last last last minutes changes, he still can cater to our last last last request to make sure our individual events run to our satisfaction.

Happy to be with all of you in this convention.  We shall meet again in future events

Best Rgds

Hi, guys -

For me the last seven days were weird.  Yes, I was in Singapore but I felt like I had been flying around the world with transit stops at unfamiliar airports, and my waking and sleeping hours all gone haywire.  Been asking myself: What time is it?  Where am I?  Home or airport?

Unforgetable seven days......

Okay, back to reality....

May I suggest that the post mortem & evaluations on the just concluded Annual Convention be made available to the organizing chairpersons of the forthcoming Nov 2008 Semiannual Convention and the May 2009 Annual Convention.

Salam - AzizM

Hi Rose and all MAD brothers and sisters

Thank you for highlighting all the Firsts'.It was mersmerising. I feel extreamely motivated and happy to have participated in the MAD convention.

Mr M Harikrishnan

Dear MAD YP & MAD team,

It's indeed 3 days of MAD, MAD, MAD convention in which

We were drained yet charged up.

We were tired yet still strong.

We were meek yet not weak.

Again, my highest salutation to Yiang Ping for her far foresight and great leadership to plan for and ensure a very smooth convention.

I also take this opportunity to thank the E & T team for organising a fantastic pre-convnention workshop in January and for being able to carry on a successful Educational session despite my withdrawal.

Of course, I must thank my salsa team members who also double up as committee mmebers in the MAD team. I truly thank them for the tortuous 6 mth of intensive training come rain, shine or earthquake.

MADly,

james

Well done, John. You've summed up all for us lazybones who refuse to do any writng except to bask in the glory of the convention!

I believe the memory of those heady three days of sizzling, stimulating and org_ _ _ _ c fun will see us through our 'old' age when we live as long as Ed Hearn's dad!

Indeed, those were three great days.

Much thanks for being my co-workers in nurturing and growing talents. Truly, truly I've never heard MCs esp J_ _ _ s doing so stupendously, beautifully well!!!

Madly yours
MH

Dear YP & All,

Just came back yesterday night.  Checked my mail and a hundred plus mails are awaiting for me to be read!!!!!!!!   This is the most urgent mail I love to reply.

I was so thrill when my name was called "Khanitha Thailand ambassador".  I would not expect that you had made me felt sudden pround to be your Thailand ambassador.  It was more than that, you are a great leader because you care for all of everyone who do anything for you to make "MAD" ever happened as best as can be.  To be recognised by all names and their responsibilities is already grabbed all the heart of your team, especially mines!

Special thanks to Gea Ban Peng, Poh Kim Siong, Micheal Wee & Better Half, Jenny, Monica, Esther, Rebecca, Kim Loon & Better Half, Aziz and especially to Patricia and Robert who made my Sunday afternoon worthwhile extending my stay.  I love you all eventhough I canot mention all of the names.

Needless to make you read more, I don't want to harm your eyes, I am your friend for life in our Toastmastering and family.

You and your Team deserved all the BEST in every way ever happend to your life.

As always,

Khanitha

To all my fellow MADDIES,

Thank you for your friendship, encouragement, patience, support and love during these 18 MAD months. Tiring and challenging though, it was great working together with all of you! I love all of you, esp. MAD mama and papa!

Both dates 2 and 4 June are okay with me but I would like to suggest Friday 6 June if more people can make it.

As for appreciation dinner, I can't make it for both dates, 20 & 27 June, as I am having whole day seminars during those two weeks in June.

Well, my job is still on until the MAD Convention accounts are completed and audited. To all sub-commitee heads , kindly advise me, by private email,  of any outstanding expenses incurred by your sub-committee by latest this Friday, 30 May 2008. You may either mail your expense claim summary together with supporting original invoices/bills to me (please let me know so I can email you my address) or pass directly to me on debriefing day so that we can finalise the accounts before term end. Please contact me directly if you need any clarification.

Cheers to all!

Warm regards,

MAD Treasurer

Monica Goh

Hi Aziz,

You are a cool guy ! You guys are 'crazy' - all seems to be infected with the toastmaster DNA! And could be contagious!!!

CHEERS!!!

Esther

Dear Jenny,

Without your great arrangement for us, I don't think we would enjoy our stay as much as we had since the day we arrived till the day we departed.  You showed your responsibility and ability in dealing all problems coming up professionally with your heartful smiles and tenderness as you always be.  I love the way you are and appreciate your quality.

Thanks for everything you rendered to us, Thai delegates.

Khanitha

My Beloved Friendly And Trustworthy dancer,

Two weeks before the event, Michael wrote to say he cannot perform.

When I called James Lim, he said he cannot perform.

The only way not to get a ‘No’ is to play waiting game.

Waiting game pays off when you are playing with a leader.

Kim Siong called to ask when we are meeting to discuss about the item not knowing he is the only one left.

The only way to get a ‘Yes’ is to tell someone that he has no choice.  Neil came on board.

When you tell Wei Koon that he has company, how can he be out? The one that willing to die for brother, Aziz agreed without hesitation.

The weakest of all, the one that discharged from hospital not long ago became the most energetic dancer.

If Michael performs more often, all the medical conditions will be gone.

Nevertheless, thing happened for a purpose.  As a district officer, after performing this item, nothing will be too embarrassing for you, nothing will be too difficult for you, nothing is impossible for you.  You will definitely have a smooth sailing term.

I sincerely thank you for your participation, YOU ARE SIMPLY THE BEST!

You deserve two thumbs up!!!  THANK YOU

Yours MADly,

Sam Chee Yee

We are planning to take up more performances and based on market rates, we can be hired for usd 4000 per performance.

Kekekeekeee....

Best Regards,
GOH Wei Koon

Dear All,

I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your hardwork and committment for the Annual Convention.

U guys are AWESOME.

Hope we can work together again in future.

Regards

Raymond

My beloved committee members,

YOU ARE SIMPLY THE BEST.

I have mentioned during the MAD team building day that I am a believer of miracle.  And you can only be a believer of miracle when you have trustable, dependable and capable people in the team.

2 weeks before the event, Lora told me that her son may not be able to do his item.  She has no confidence.

2 weeks before the event, Michael told me that he was hospitalized and may not be able to perform. James Lim asked to be excluded.

Jeshua told me that he can get the whole SIATMC team to help him to dress up the delegates but he only brought in one helper.

Issue popped up after issue. We were still finalizing the program 2 days before the event.

The rest were history.

More than 50 people told me that they were very impressed by my 'son'.

We had supposedly " the most boring speech" turned into the most interesting speech from Our Empress Dowager.

What can I say about the FAT dancers? Nobody will ever forget the FAT dancers at the MAD convention.

We have two amateur MCs. But their acts are more professional than some professionals that I have seen. They are lively, funny and outrageous.

For the rest of you, you know your effort is appreciated.  We work non stop from 2pm till 10pm. Everything fell in place only during the final minutes.  We did not even need to ask for helping hand from others.

Lastly, special mention about Thevi, the make up artist who has helped us made so many people look MAD. Think it over, how can we expect people to dress to the theme when they have to attend council meeting, workshop and only have 2 hours break before the dinner event.  However, many delegates dressed to the theme.

This is an unforgettable experience and it is only possible because of all of you.

One more night to go, be your best.

Yours MADly,

SAM

Dear Jeshua

Your MAD Fashion House did a marvellous job with what you have to play around.

Thanks.

Catherine

Last night was a wonderful display of team work. Everyone worked so hard at their parts as well as supporting the others. After the whole event was done, I could see the exhausted looks on our faces, we gave it our best!

A sincere thanks for the support, everyone!

David Liem

My beloved dancers,

YOU ARE SIMPLY AMAZING.

For the ladies, you always appear pretty to me whether it is within or it is without.
But today after looking at the make over you, my dictionary does not have enough adjective to describe how gorgeous, sexy, radiant, mesmerizing and attractive you are.  If you are married, I envy your husband. If you are single, I regret that I am married.

For the guys, you have proven your worthiness to lead the lady. You have brought out the best ability they have. I must say you must have given your best performance.

I apologize for subjecting you with the harshest condition (Blinding spot light, hardly visible flooring and worst of all uncoordinated music timing) You may look a bit confused and a bit lost during your Salsa performance.

However, you are quick in bouncing back.  I notice that you all are relaxed during the bachatta performance.  And that is the best finale that I can hardly expect.

I thank you for the effort that you have put in.

I thank you for the time that you have sacrifice for the convention.
I thank you for money that you have spent to appear so professional on the stage.
I thank you for the privilege to have you in our Gala Dinner performance.

Of course, no word is sufficient for me to express my gratitude towards the GREAT TEACHER, CHOREOGRAPHER and a SUAVE DANCER, Ban Peng and our tireless
coordinator, serious and high expectation organizer, James Tan.

I have only one question to ask. Can I be your marketing agent?

Once again, THANK YOU and you deserve two thumbs up and a standing ovation.

Yours madly,
Sam
