Opening Address for INSTALLATION NIGHT 06 August 03 at SIA TMC

General Bey Soo Kiang, Area D1 Governor, District Officers, Fellow TMs and
friends...good evening.

      Though my  days as the PRS of the SIA TMC have come to an end,  deep
down inside I will  always treasure all the wonderful memories of the
comraderie among my members and FELLOW TMS.

      The  LAUGHTER, the JOY, the DEFEAT and the VICTORY have helped to
make my days as PRS of the CLUB  an EVENTFUL as well as an EXCITING one.

      MY term of ONE YEAR has slipped by so fast that  sometimes I wish
that it was in my POWER to turn back the CLOCK..... so that I can do what I
did...this TIME MAYBE BETTER!

      FOR ME,  the SPIRIT OF TMS will always be that FIRE that will burn
BRIGHT within me......... and I hope  that it will be the LIGHT that will
SHINE in my Club always! As long as there is this UNQUENCHABLE THIRST in
each and everyone of us for KNOWLEDGE, TMS can satisfy that THIRST!

      Sharing your EXPERIENCES and KNOWLEDGE with fellow TMs and friends is
a GREAT WAY to weather the STORMS and tribulations of Life. At least you
know you are NOT ALONE in your MISERY!

 I must at this JUNCTURE  apologise to those members to whom I may have
caused too much STRESS by sending email after email reminding them to do
their Project Speeches and not to forget their committment to the
Toastmaster cause. Sometimes I get carried away..FORGIVE ME!

      I  joined SIA TMC quite  by accident. One day I happened to walk past
MDC where the Club was having a meeting
and I ended up inside.  To my delight, I  found the meeting quite RELAXING
and ENTERTAINING. The following month in OCT 1997  I joined up as a MEMBER.

      I can remember the FIRST TIME I stood up to speak at the IMPROMPTU
Table Topics session. I would STUTTER and SHAKE and was a NERVOUS WRECK. I
felt as if I was on TRIAL and the MEMBERS were sentencing me! Nowadays I
can hardly wait to volunteer whenever a Table Topic Question is being
posed.

      When I first joined the Club the HEAD COUNT  at meetings  stood at
around 10.
       I have watched and seen the Club grow from  31 members and now to 75
members. I feel as if I have planted a DURIAN  tree in my backyard and now
I am seeing the TREE bear FRUIT.

 I  am HAPPY to say that TMS has made me the SELF CONFIDENT person that  I
am today.

 I want to say a BIG 'THANK YOU' to  the members of my Exco team  for not
giving up.  If at all you want to know the meaning of the word
'SELF-SATISFACTION'. This is it....my dear friends

      TMs doesn't give you a $$$$ reward  when you complete CTM status or
ATM status. TMs does not reward you when you VOLUNTEER to serve in the
EXecutive Committee...............but that feeling of ACHIEVEMENT  and
self-satisfaction is BEYOND WORDS!

 I bear TESTIMONY to  feeling because I AM FEELING IT NOW>>>EVEN as I stand
here before all of you..............and you know ................

      TOASTMASTERS SELDOM LIE!


      I must also thank those members who are INSTRUMENTAL in spreading the
word of TMs around and bringing new MEMBERS to the Club. May they remain
DEDICATED  and committed........... and may their ENTHUSIASM be CONTAGIOUS!

      Our Club has scored  8 DISTINGUISHED goals for the LAST  TERM and we
are ONE goal away from the PRESIDENT's Distinguished Club. By some ill
STROKE OF LUCK,  one member who was supposed to do his CL to gain that
extra one goal fell SICK for the 2 meetings when he was supposed to do his
CL PRESENTATIONS.

 Nevertheless I know that the NEW EXCO headed by PRS CHAN will find no
problem in reaching that PRS DISTINGUISHED CLUB STATUS.
      I am also CONVINCED and CONFIDENT that this new team in the EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE  lead the  Club to GREATER HEIGHTS of GLORY and ACHIEVEMENT.

      I have always believed in this:
'PUT A MAN IN THE AUTHORITY and position that you want him to be; EXPECT
THE BEST FROM HIM.............and he will be the BEST and live up to your
EXPECTATIONS; Tell him HE IS A FAILURE................ and  a failure he
will BE!

      All that is left for me to say is; IF ANY  YOU HAVE A DREAM however
IMPOSSIBLE it may seem,..... whether it is to climb Mt Kinabalu, to become
a Speech Champion or even to marry your dream girl..................NEVER
let GO of that DREAM!

VISUALISE it........FANTASISE IT and...........CAPITALISE on it!

 'DREAMS are like TINY SEEDS  from which beautiful tomorrows grow.  DEEP
DOWN INSIDE, I know that SIA TMC will have many many more beautiful
